Every year, Nikon honors the best microscopic photography in the world with a competition called Small World. This image was in 7th place and I think it is so beautiful. Utah scientist Dr. Michael John Bridge used confocal microscopy to capture the eye organ of a fruit fly. It's lovely and mind blowing--they all are! Very interesting eye candy! These highly graphical images were created by Stephen Gaeta, a physician/scientist/artist currently completing his internal medicine residency. This group is part of a series called "Art of Medicine", all of which have a colorful, fun vibe to them. Perfect for bringing a smile to anyone waiting to see the doctor!
